Cameras Installed in Husby & Akalla to Prevent Crime

New Surveillance Cameras Installed in Stockholm Suburbs

The City of Stockholm has installed ten new surveillance cameras in the suburbs of Husby and Akalla. The municipality hopes that the cameras will help to prevent crime and provide evidence for police investigations.

Cameras Aim to Prevent Crime and Provide Evidence for Police Investigations

The police will not be able to monitor the cameras in real time. However, they can request the videos seven days later. The City of Stockholm is aware that crime scenes can move, but they have other tools to address this risk, such as outreach workers, social services, and security guards.

Privacy Concerns Acknowledged, but Cameras Seen as Necessary

Councilor Alexander Ojanne (S) acknowledges people’s privacy concerns with relation to surveillance but states that it is necessary to act when safety levels are low. He also emphasizes that people’s insecurities need to be taken seriously as well.

The pilot project will be evaluated in six months.

The installation of these cameras is a positive step forward for public safety. We will evaluate the effectiveness of the new security cameras in half a year. If they are successful, we may install more cameras in other areas. This is a great initiative by the City of Stockholm to make neighborhoods safer and reduce crime rates.

More Cameras Possible If Project Is Successful

The pilot project will be evaluated in six months. If the cameras are successful in reducing crime and improving public safety, the City of Stockholm may install more cameras in other areas.
