What Happened

An SJ express train derailed between Hudiksvall and Iggesund on Monday, August 7th due to heavy rain. Two train carriages derailed, and three people were taken to hospital. All passengers were evacuated from the train.


Train traffic was halted in the area for at least the rest of the day. Delays are expected throughout the week, and repairs are expected to be completed by the end of the week.

Storm “Hans” Blamed for Derailment

The storm “Hans” is being blamed for the derailment. Heavy rain and thunder caused the embankment to collapse, which led to the derailment of the train. Hudiksvall was hit hard by the storm, with 68.7 millimeters of rain falling between 8PM last night and 8AM on Monday morning.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Passengers were evacuated from the train by bus to Hudiksvall. Authorities are working to repair the track and get train traffic back to normal as soon as possible.
