Avalanche Warning Causes Train Stop Between Stockholm and Norrköping

Avalanche Warning Halts Travel Between Stockholm and Norrköping

Travelers on the route between Stockholm and Norrköping were met with a sudden halt on Friday morning. An alarm of an avalanche warning in the Kolmården area caused a train stop in the traffic. The Swedish Transport Administration’s automatic landslide alarms were triggered due to the vulnerable location.

“The landslide warning has been put up to ensure that if the ground starts to move, we have to go there and check before we can let traffic go again,” says Trafikverket’s press communicator Katarina Wolffram.

Though uncommon, avalanche warnings can sometimes be false alarms. Monday’s derailment in Hudiksvall indicated a more dangerous situation with the train driver raising the alarm due to swaying. In this case, no such dangerous signs have been reported.
