Sweden’s Life Science Strategy Aims to Make the Country a Leader

Sweden will become a leading country in life science. With those words, the previous government launched a Swedish life science strategy.

The strategy contains 30 objectives within eight priority areas. These are deemed to be particularly important to work with in order for Sweden to be at the forefront of the field.

The eight priority areas include: strengthened national coordination in the life science area; making use of health and care data for research and innovation; responsible, safe and ethical policy development; integration of research and innovation in healthcare; welfare technology for increased independence, participation and health; research and infrastructure; competence provision, talent attraction and lifelong learning; and international attractiveness and competitiveness.

For example, for strengthened national coordination in the life science area there are goals such as setting up a life science office in the Government Office; establishing a partnership for regional and national pooling of power; and making the Nordic region a globally leading life science hub.

In terms of making use of health and care data for research and innovation there are goals such as efficient and safe exchange of patient data; increased use of health data for research and innovation; efficient, safe and ethical use of registry data; better use of biobanks; follow-up using Real World Data.

The Swedish life science strategy is aiming to make Sweden a leader in the field through these eight priority areas.
